Use my guide to workout which undertone you have.
Working out your undertone can be confusing. Figuring out your skin tone is one thing - but working out your undertone can be mind boggling. If you can figure out your undertone you can work out which makeup shades look best on you.
By the time you've finished reading this article you should be able to figure out whether you’re warm, cool, or neutral.
1) Remove all your makeup (or do this before you put your makeup on) and pull your hair back into a ponytail. This way your hair colour can’t put you off. Now grab a pure white piece of clothing and an off-white piece of clothing. Hold them up to your face one at a time. Do you look better in white or do you look better in off-white? If white suits you more then your undertones are warm, but if pure white makes you look washing out and off-white is more flattering then your undertones are cool. However, if you feel great in both colours? Your skin may have neutral undertones. Let’s try another test….
2) How your skin react in the sun. Are you one of those people who tan easily and rarely burn? Most people who tan have warm undertones. If you burn easily and tan very minimally, you most likely have a cool undertone to your skin. However, if you’re still not entirely convinced of your warmness or coolness, you could have neutral undertones.
3) Do you prefer silver or gold jewellery? If you think you look best in gold, you have a warm undertone. If silver is more flattering, your undertones are cool. If you think both gold and silver look good on you, then you might have neutral undertones.
4) Another quick way to determine your undertone is to look at your wrists, in particular your veins. Find some natural light to do this. Do your veins look slightly green? If so, you’re warm. If your veins have more of a blue tint or even a hint of purple, your undertones are cool. And if you can’t quite decide and you feel like your veins are more of blue-green colour, then you have neutral undertones.
So what’s the verdict? Are you warm, cool, or neutral?
