Cannabis is one of the newer ingredients on the block that is giving the beauty editors a buzz – and no, I'm not inferring that they are smoking it. One important distinction to make before you venture into the world of CBD and Hemp skincare is that skincare products sold in the UK contain very little to no THC – the psychoactive and illegal compound of Cannabis. All products contain CBD, known as cannabidiol, or Hemp, which are extracted from the flowers and buds on the Cannabis plant but have no psychoactive effects - so you aren't going to get hooked! They simply work to improve the appearance and texture of your skin. Some of the reasons this fabulous ingredient is growing in popularity include that it is known to heal irritation, soothe the skin and balance oils, cannabinoids work instantly as our bodies have native receptors to them meaning the wonderful results from skincare enriched with Cannabis extracts can be noticed straightaway. With more and more research going into the skin-perfecting effects of CBD and Hemp, I'm confident that there will be many more cannabis-infused beauty products being launched over the next few years. Obviously I had to try something in the CBC range and I have had the pleasure of trying Raised Spirit Organic CBD Body Balm (£49.99) over the last couple of weeks. Alongside non-intoxicating CBD that's sourced from organic hemp flower extract, this body balm is made with nourishing ingredients like Vitamin E-rich organic coconut oil and shea butter, organic lavender essential oil to support the skin's natural moisture barrier and organic sunflower lecithin, which is rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, much like CBD.
The vegan-friendly formula can be massaged into the body as generously as needed, or even the soles of the feet to support deep rest and relaxation before bed. Personally I use it as the most unbelievably nourishing hand cream. As an MUA this time of year leaves my hands super dry after all the brush washing and cleaning with alcohol that has to take place for hygiene regions. This is the first cream I've ever used that truly works - and I've honestly tried hundreds. To be honest I hate the smell - it really doesn't appeal to me, however, I'm willing to deal the the smell as my hands are in fabulous condition and look better than they have in years. I've also used it on sunburnt skin and found this to be really nourishing and reduced the redness by morning. Also if you have dry feet on your skin, slather some on at night and they are soft and nourished by morning time. So all in all this in my opinion I think that this is a great product. Its not cheap, but a little really goes a long way - so will last you a long time. Have you tried any CBD beauty products? I'd love to hear your opinions good and bad as this is an area I would love to explore more. Emma x
