How To Get Gorgeous Skin Forever

Attention, this is your skin prescription for flawless, glowing, radiant, smooth, supple, and beautiful skin. I was lucky in school and rarely got any spots.  However, as an adult and after having children, I found that I suffered with adult acne on my face, something I was so embarrassed about; I lost my confidence and struggled with my self-esteem post-babies and now with horrible skin too. It was only when I changed my diet and lifestyle that my skin completely cleared up and beyond that I routinely go without wearing makeup! Today, I am sharing Skin Food and your Skin Prescription to Get Gorgeous Skin Forever and a of couple tips and tricks I have learned over the years I struggled with “less than great” skin.
Nutrition plays a crucial role in how strong and healthy our hair is, and also keeps our skin clear, radiant, and glowing! Our skin is the largest detoxification organ in our body so inflammation, food intolerances, stress, digestive issues, lack of sleep, dehydration, and hormonal imbalances are bound to pop up in the skin in some fashion. Just like our hair, our skin requires enough energy and healthy calories to keep it healthy, tight, and glowing especially B vitamins, minerals like zinc, healthy fats, and protein. Nourishing our bodies from the inside will always show on the outside, therefore the most important thing you can do to get healthy skin now is to start from the inside, supporting your health on a cellular level. Just as eating and taking care of yourself from the inside, there are great topical products you can try to take your skin to the next level, in my years of experience learning how my skin reacts to certain stressors, not all “natural beauty” skincare products work on my skin. For example, coconut oil on my face, no way! I break out like crazy, but coconut oil as a body moisturizer works beautifully. It’s all about YOU and learning how your skin is!

Skin food = essential nutrients.
The more that we treat the inside of our bodies with care and nourish on a cellular level, the more out body can absorb and utilize those nutrients to make our skin glow, radiant, and clear up from the inside out. Zinc, B vitamins, selenium, protein, healthy fats, magnesium, vitamin E, A, C are just some of the few nutrients our skin needs. It wasn’t until I regulalry started drinking Green Smoothies, that I begun to see a drastic change in my digestion, my skin, and my hair. My hair grew stronger and longer, my skin had that “glow” everyone always talks about, my pores looked smaller, and overall I felt so happy not needing to wear loads of makeup. If you take anything away from this blog post today, it’s to seriously get on Green Smoothie every morning and see how your health can transform- and like anything, it will never happen overnight, it takes consistency and diligence with all of these changes.

Stress less.
Managing stress is crucial at keeping our cortisol levels in check and keep our hormones humming along in perfect unison. When we have any hormonal imbalance, whether that be triggered by too much stress (which I have to say is 90% of what I see with my clients and what affects my skin personally the most!), lack of sleep, lack of exercise, or eating the wrong foods for our bodies, the more our skin shows it’s “stressed out”. Need a little help?

Cleanse correctly!
I’m a huge believer in keeping every product you use on your skin, super simple, yet effective. Some of you, myself included, have really sensitive skin and for this and through my experience, using fragrance free cleansers and products have been incredibly helpful. A couple of my go-to cleansers include what my dermatologist recommends, Calm Cleanser, Smoothing Facial Cleanser and Hydrating Cleanser and Freshner. . Boost it! Try adding a little pinch of baking soda to any of your creamer cleansers for a natural yet super effective exfoliant!

Water.
I could go on and on about how important water is for our overall health, but for the sake of talking skin, it’s important! Our skin is thirsty and not just from the inside but also from topical products we use and ones that keep moisture locked in. Try this! Spritz your favourite rosewater spray, floral essence, or just a good sprinkle of warm water or hydrating toner and then immediately put on your serums and moisturizers. This locks in the water or the essence beautifully, leaving your skin super plump! Peptides have also been shown to help retain moisture. Try my Chia Fresca or Simply Infused Water recipes to keep you hydrated from the inside.

Go bare!
Skip the makeup. I would say 4-5 days out of the week I’m completely makeup free and it feels amazing! I remember when I first started incorporating these “make up free days” when my skin was not at its best - I was terrified. I didn’t have “horrible” skin, but just the thought of me leaving the house not “done up” was enough to get me all hot and bothered. Now, I totally embrace letting my skin breath, natural glow show, and it just feels right, feels like me with nothing to hide! Don’t get me wrong, I still love to get ready with makeup and have fun with new looks, but the majority of the time, I use less than 5 products. I challenge you to the no make up free day challenge, where you set up a couple if not just 1 day a week where you’re completely makeup free and FAB-U-LOUS.

YOUR TURN: What are your favourite healthy skin care tips and tricks?
