Raw Honey and Avocado Face Mask

Continuing on Natural Beauty section, I thought it only fitting to include a DIY beauty recipe including one of my favourite ingredients, avocado! We’ve already used the avocado recently in my Zingy Citrus Guacamole , and it’ll pop up again today in this DIY beauty recipe for a hydrating, moisturizing, and soothing face mask.
SO NATURAL, YOU CAN EAT IT.

All of these whole food ingredients can easily be found in your cupboard and be made very quickly. I use oats, avocado, honey, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar all for a reason. Each of them have unique properties that work together to provide nutrients, antioxidants directly to your skin and also leave it feeling smooth and soothed. If you’re thinking that you’re going to waste 1/2 of an avocado just for a face mask, think again. You know how avocados go from firm to ripe in the matter of a day and you’re left wondering how to use that avocado? Well this is a perfect time to use a really ripe avocado!

RAW AVOCADO & HONEY FACE MASK
DIY Raw Honey honey and Avocado face mask to help soothe, smooth, and hydrate your skin.
Serves: makes 125ml

INGREDIENTS
  • ½ avocado
  • 60ml / ¼ cup uncooked oatmeal
  • 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. raw honey
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Simply mash and combine and the ingredients in a small bowl and apply to your face. Be careful around your eyes (as with all products).
  2. Let sit on your face for about 20 minutes.
  3. Rinse with warm water.
  4. Follow with your favourite moisturiser.

The avocado used is loaded with vitamin E, healthy fats and antioxidants to help keep the skin smooth; the lemon juice and apple cider vinegar contain citric acid which may help “brighten” the skin and the apple cider vinegar may help reduce inflammation on the skin (think of breakouts or redness as inflammation ); the honey helps brighten the skin and also thoroughly cleanse with natural antibacterial/antimicrobial properties to it; and the uncooked oatmeal can work as an exfoliant while also soothing the skin. Many all natural skincare lines use avocado in the form of avocado oil. It’s used as a moisturizer and all natural source of free radical damage fighting vitamin A, E, and vitamin C.

After you’ve mashed the avocado and the rest of the ingredients into a small bowl, apply with your fingertips or my absolute favourite spa-like application, using a brush. Take a makeup brush or one that you don’t use often and designate this to be your “mask” brush. I do this for all my facial masks and create a spa-like experience at home by using the brush to apply the mask.

I wish you all an amazing weekend. See you next week or keep up to date with me via Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram this weekend! I hope you all enjoy this one, be sure to show me and share with me your avocado face when you give it a go! Tag me on instagram or use the hashtag #emma_olliff_nutrition so I can see you’re beautiful 'avocado' faces
