Just wanted to share with you why I've fallen for new makeup brand on the UK block!
As a working makeup artist, I never really wanted to be selling products. I just wanted to do fabulous makeup. I honestly care about each and everyone of my clients, and I'm protective of the trust that they place in me. However, at every consultation, without fail I will always be asked 'where can I buy that eyeshadow palette' or 'where is that lipstick from'. I wanted to work out the easiest way to connect my clients with a one-stop shop where they could get their hands on their perfect foundation, create a shadow palette where they would use every single shade (not just 1 or 2) and be able to guide them on the brushes in my kit, without having to spend hours writing detailed emails with links to a ton of websites to purchase everything.
I would like to start by being completely upfront and honest and let you know that I've done network marketing / direct sales previously and to be honest I didn't really like the whole energy surrounding it, it felt like being part of a deranged cult and did not sit comfortably with me. And after ending my relationship with my previous company I made a decision to NEVER get involved with this kind of business ever again.
However, In my quest to find a solution to my clients wanting to purchase what I use, I came across LimeLife by Alcone. Initially I was very wary as it was another direct sales company - and I had sworn that I wouldn't get involved in one ever again. But, they seemed different to the previous company I had been involved with, and I really liked their vibe.
LimeLife heritage is really interesting. The Alcone Company opened in 1950 as a pharmacy that also sold makeup to Broadway performers. It's been an institution for New York MUAs ever since. Makeup artists were constantly referring their clients to the Alcone store, and Alcone wanted to find a way to compensate them for it. So, what they did was take their top-selling products and have those pro-brands manufacture them for Alcone. They then branded the products as LimeLight, which has recently rebranded again for their global expansion as LimeLife.
Here is a breakdown of some of the products for my makeup artist and makeup obsessed friends:
The following products are LimeLife's own formulations: Enduring Lip Colour, Signature Lipgloss, Perfect Lipstick, Perfect Mascara, Perfect Bronzer, Enduring Lip Liner, Perfect Blush and Perfect Setting Powder.
Despite being super sceptical about joining another company with this business model, something about LimeLife struck a chord. I had a really good feeling about the company, their ethos and the products.
I have been trying out and using the LimeLife products for around 6 weeks now (that's when they launched in the UK) and I've been using them both on myself and my clients. As with any product I try, I don't just get brainwashed by the hype, I remain picky, objective and obsessive in my quest to find the best products for my kit. Now the big question is do I feel comfortably recommending LimeLife? It does meet some very important qualities to be even considered:
Not tested on animals ✔️
Cruelty Free ✔️
Paraben Free ✔️
Pthalate Free ✔️
Moderately Priced ✔️
I think you'll see that I haven't been completely brainwashed and I'm not going to tell you that I'm completely in love with everything. I also would like you to know that I purchased everything with my own money, and I'm not going to lie to you.
WHAT I THOUGHT
Rating System: Love, OK, Meh or No
Perfect Foundation: LOVE. If you want to wear the same foundation as Ariane Grande, Beyoncé, J Lo and Kim Kardashian then this is the one for you. It has a 50% pigment but can also be worn as a tinted moisturiser and concealer. I use it 2 ways:
1) I apply with a damp beauty blender or LimeLife's Blenderful Sponge and it creates a beautiful, realistic (buildable) coverage that looks and photographs like real skin. To read my full review CLICK HERE
2) To create a lighter more dewy finish I massage a drop of Dew Date on to skin then follow as above.
Complete Concealer: OK. This is an incredibly opaque, full coverage concealer. It is totally waterproof too. It is excellent at tattoo, hyperpigmentation and birthmark coverage. The reason I don't love it (I don't actually love any concealer, and don't think you necessarily need to use it - especially if you are using the Perfect Foundation) is because I find that it creases when used on the under eye area (most concealers do), However, my views aside, Kevin Aucoin made this formula popular when he famously used it as foundation. The coverage is immense so you could skin foundation altogether - if that is the look you are after!
Perfect Eye Shadow: LOVE. Without a doubt, this is the most pigmented eyeshadow I've ever tried. As a cruelty free MUA I've struggled to find fabulous eyeshadows with great pigmentation … Until Now! What I love more than anything is that you can create custom refillable palettes., use them wet or dry and as brow powders. I will do a separate post and swatch the shadows so you can see how amazing they are.
Perfect Blush: LOVE. Super pigmented like all of their products and the pan sizes are ginormous so will probably last you forever. The shimmery shades look radiant on my brides. 1-Alive and 3-Possible are my favourites and for a love subtle highlighter try 6-Glowing.
Time Setter and Oil Strike Setting Sprays: LOVE. Up until now I hadn't found a setting spray that I was truly impressed with. Both of these sprays are fantastic and totally worth the few seconds it takes to spray and let dry for long-lasting makeup that won't budge.
Enduring Lip Liner: OK. Initially I was a Meh for this, but it is growing on me the more I use it, so perhaps it will eventually become a product I love? What I do love is that you can sharpen the pencil by simply twisting when you put the cap on. Staying power is great and my favourite shade would be 02 for the ultimate nude liner. Its just not my favourite formulation on the market - my favourite would still be Charlotte Tilbury.
Perfect Mascara: OK. Did you know that Alcone was the first to create a fibre mascara before anyone else? I wouldn't say fibre mascaras are my personal favourite, but this is an easy, buildable formulation to use. I would say 2 or 3 coats improves the look of the lashes and it doesn't clump! Good points are that it doesn't flake, smudge or cause an irritation (I've got super sensitive eyes). However it isn't waterproof, but seems to endure nonetheless.
Perfect LipGloss: OK. There is nothing wrong with this product, I'm just not a lipgloss kinda gal! It has a super sweet smell, a bit like caramel, which my daughters absolutely love. The packaging is fabulous and I get so many comments about the blingy lid and smart mirror on the side. The feedback on the product is extremely positive and the glosses glide on very sheer and aren't sticky.
Perfect Bronzer: MEH. This will not become my go to bronzer, I still love Delilah's, because its quite shimmery and I prefer a matte version. On more mature skin, it can enhance texture and pores if not used sparingly. It does create a lovely glow, but I would LOVE this for sure if it was shimmer-free. My 16 year old daughter loves it - so I think it is perfect for younger clients.
I'm looking forward to using these products on more people's faces and connecting my clients with professional products that put pigment and quality first. LimeLife make products that are pro-kit worthy - the testimony to this is by how many professional makeup artists are using the products.
