If you’ve never heard of Turmeric Milk, you’re in for a treat. This drink is not only comforting, relaxing, and soothing at night, but extremely nutritious. Turmeric is packed full of nutrients especially antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Another benefit, it tastes delicious! Turmeric has a warm, slightly spicy, bold, and earthy flavor and when mixed with a hint of sweetness makes this the new night cap beverage (without the alcohol).
There is little in this life that makes us feel more healthy, glowy, and Gwyneth Paltrow-esque than a big glass of green. Now, I know that I am a little bit skeptical about some of her lifestyle choices, but this is one thing she definitely got right. A green smoothie is a fantastic addition to your regime, whether you're looking to boost nutrient-intake, kick-start your metabolism, or just start the day off on a healthier note. Here at Emma Olliff Nutrition, I am utterly hooked on my green drinks, both juiced and blended. Not only are they packed with nutrients, but somehow, if you start the morning with one of these you'll find yourself eating better throughout the day. But the smoothie blends have a major leg up on juice for two reasons.
Our liver is probably the most important detoxification organ in our bodies, and it’s responsible for over 500 processes, not just including the metabolism of alcohol, but also the metabolism of hormones, medications and toxins from the environment, food, etc. It also stores glycogen and is a powerful fat burning organ. You can see that it’s one of the hardest working organs in our body, which is all the more reason to give it a lot of love and support through nutrient dense whole foods and supportive herbs here and there, including this Liver Loving Iced Tea!
Drinking fruit infused water is the best way to detox your body and lose weight.
Bubble Water (a.k.a. Chia Fresca) is something I stumbled across a couple of summers ago. Bubble Water is a combination of naturally flavoured water + chia seeds. Simple as that! It’s incredibly hydrating, filling, loaded with healthy fats, protein, and fiber all into one easy-to-drink glass. It’s also a delicious way to stay hydrated by using whatever “base” you enjoy!
In Emma Olliff Nutrition style, I'm taking water to another level with my Infused Water. Infused water with fresh fruit, fragrant herbs, raw veggies, and spices. In this guide learn how to make your own healthy, nutritious flavoured water with nothing artificial just the goodness of real foods, herbs, and spices; I also share some of my favourite flavour combinations. A note, these infused waters don’t contain an entire days worth of vitamins or anything extreme like most store-bought “vitamin waters” with added vitamins- this is all about natural and subtle flavours and natural nutrients. Keep it simple.
This is one of those recipes that looks more daunting than it actually is, although you could take a short cut by buying a ready made laksa paste. Ready-made pastes aren't too bad, but they tend to lack the real sting an zing of the home-made stuff.
I’m a huge smoothie fan. I really think that they are one of the best ways to begin your day – so filling, satisfying and energising, not to mention totally delicious! They’re so easy too, you simply throw everything together in the blender and two minutes later you have the healthiest on-the-go breakfast! Not to mention that there is very little washing up, so there is really no excuse not to make one.
